Nam Myoho Renge Kyo – The Mystic Law of the Universe

Nam – I am or I dedicate myself to.

This is an affirmation of our true nature, which is mystic, limitless and that of interconnected light beings.  We are starlight, we are golden.

Myoho – the universal cycle of birth and death.

Everything in the universe goes through this cycle of manifestation and non-manifestation. Our bodies, our environment, our planet, our galaxy and even our universe.

Myo refers to the mystic, unseen or non-manifested spiritual aspect of all that we experience. Myo is the source.

Ho refers to the manifested, densified vibration of the spiritual aspect. i.e. our emotions, thoughts, environment and physical body.

All that we experience has an unseen, spiritual aspect to it. The universal vibration that is our lives, densifies to create a manifested version or representation of the nature of the spiritual aspect. When we chant the Daimoku (Nam Myoho Renge Kyo) we align ourselves through sympathetic vibration to the vibration of the universal  sound. This brings us in line with who we really are.

Renge– The law of Cause and Effect

Renge, meaning lotus blossom, is a metaphor that offers further insight into the qualities of this Mystic Law. The lotus flower is pure and fragrant, unsullied by the muddy water in which it grows. Similarly, the beauty and dignity of our humanity is brought forth amidst the sufferings of daily reality.

Unlike other plants, the lotus puts forth flowers and fruit at the same time. In most plants, the fruit develops after the flower has bloomed and the petals of the flower have fallen away. The fruit of the lotus plant, however, develops simultaneously with the flower, and when the flower opens, the fruit is there within it. This illustrates the principle of the simultaneity of cause and effect; we do not have to wait to become someone perfect in the future, we can bring forth the power of the Mystic Law from within our lives at any time.

Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is thus a vow, an expression of determination, to embrace and manifest our true (Buddha) nature.

Kyo – This means ‘thread’ or ‘link’

Everything in the universe is connected through vibration (light and sound).

These are some of the ways in which the name “Myoho-renge-kyo” describes the Mystic Law, of which our lives are an expression. To chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is an act of faith in the Mystic Law and in the magnitude of life’s inherent possibilities.

I hope that you enjoy boundless joy from this practice.

Also, I want to mention that children that are born to a parent that chants Nam Myoho Renge Kyo are called ‘Fortune babies’…….sweet hey?

With love and gratitude
